Department Overview:
The Knight Cardiovascular Institute at Oregon Health & Science University is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Scholar to join the group and participate as a fellow in our NIH-funded T32 training program in translational cardiovascular research. Research emphasis in this training program focuses on cardiovascular regulation, inflammation processes, as well as cardiovascular development. This fellowship will be supported through a multidisciplinary approach that involves co-mentorship from both basic and clinical scientists, with the primary goal to support future scientists with an interest/focus in translational cardiovascular research.
Function/Duties of Position:
  • Design and implement research experiments in alignment with scientific goals. This includes development of scientific hypothesis and specific aims, optimization of experimental protocols and design, management of data collection and interpretation, and reporting of results to key groups at scientific meetings/conferences.
  • Participate in scientific meetings, discuss and present findings to mentorship committee
  • Participate in the preparation of scientific papers, posters and grant submissions
  • Assist in general laboratory maintenance. This includes but is not limited to ordering, inventory, and equipment maintenance.
  • Participate in the training of research assistants, graduate students, and volunteers in the laboratory.
Required Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in a biological or biomedical science required Doctoral degree in a biological or biomedical science required
  • Extensive experience in experimental applications in the space of molecular and cell biology including but not limited to Western Blotting, Q-PCR, Immunohistochemistry, histology
  • Experience in Advanced Imaging techniques such as super-resolution, confocal, and OCT imaging.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and software platforms (GraphPad, SPSS/SAS)
  • Familiarity with one of more image analysis software: Image J, IMARIS, or Zen.
  • Proficiency in laboratory safety and regulatory requirements
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity in developing research and analysis strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a small group setting, and one-on-one with collaborators in a positive and productive manner.
  • Proven ability to independently manage, analyze and interpret research data, utilizing tools such as spreadsheets, graphics, and statistical programs.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work demands to meet project deadlines and objectives, in a high-pace environment.
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of research data through rigorous quality control and review processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience translational cardiovascular research
  • Proteomics, metabolomics, RNAseq experience
  • Experience in animal models of cardiovascular disease
  • Strong publication track record.
  • Proficiency in writing and maintaining animal use protocols
  • Proficiency in analyzing large data sets in the space of proteomics and genomics data
