Summary of Position

The Prospect Research Analyst (PRA) works independently on research and prospect identification projects, consults with several fundraising teams and individual development officers, and partners on other prospect management efforts. The PRA plays a direct role in the success of the University’s fundraising initiatives by identifying possible donors, estimating their giving potential, and supporting the strategic movement of prospects through the donor pipeline.


University Advancement has implemented a Hybrid/Remote Workplace. This is a hybrid position with the expectation that the employee resides within reasonable distance to the Durham, NH campus (under three hours) and is available to come to campus depending on the business needs of the team.

  • Knowledge of a broad range of research techniques, as well as familiarity with CRM/database systems.

  • Strong aptitude for logical thinking, problem solving and intellectual curiosity.

Duty/Responsibility

Prospect Research and Analysis
  • Utilize advanced research methodologies to gather biographical and financial data from publicly available and electronic resources.
  • Analyze and interpret research data to calculate wealth estimates, capacity ratings, and a prospect’s inclination to make philanthropic contributions to the University.
  • Synthesize research and analysis into easily digestible formats, providing potential donor strategies and other pertinent details to support the University’s campaign and fundraising goals.
  • Proactively identify new prospects and networks using internal information and external resources.
  • Prepare executive briefings for University leadership, including the President, Provost, Deans, Vice Presidents, and members of the board of directors.

Duty/Responsibility

Communication and Outreach
  • Advise development officers on prospect strategies by delivering timely and valuable information through the analysis of publicly available data and online alerts.
  • Facilitate meetings between the Prospect Research and Management (PRM) team and development officers to discuss prospect strategies, new prospects, and recent donor visits.

  • Provide details and analysis in strategy sessions with development staff and Advancement leadership that directly impact cultivation efforts and ask amounts.
  • Assist Prospect Management colleagues to develop and maintain high quality prospect portfolios through strategy meetings and analysis of development officer prospects.
